Why schools feel pressure
AI entered education very quickly. Schools are now making decisions about writing, assessment, student support, privacy, communication and automation at the same time.
Some teams feel they must adopt every new tool. Others want to block everything. I do not think either reaction is enough.
Where AI can help
AI can support routine questions, organize information, summarize a first draft and reduce repetitive administrative work. CRM and LMS systems can also help teams see the student journey more clearly.
These tools are useful when the problem is clear. They become a distraction when an institution starts with the technology and then looks for a reason to use it.
What must stay human
A person must remain responsible for accuracy. A person must review decisions that affect admission, discipline, accessibility, academic integrity or financial support.
Students also need to know when they are speaking with a system and how to reach a real person. Transparency is part of trust.
A simple starting point
Before choosing a tool, ask where people are losing time, clarity, trust or support. Choose one small problem. Test the solution with real users. Measure whether the experience improved.
AI should support education. It should not become an excuse to remove responsibility.
Three ideas to take with you
- Start with one defined problem, not a broad AI strategy.
- Name the person responsible for checking outputs and handling exceptions.
- Measure trust, accuracy and user experience, not only speed.
